SRU physical and health education majors earn honors

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. ¬- Joseph Hritz and Jonathan Fouts, Slippery Rock University physical and health education majors from Mentor, Ohio, and Pittsburgh, were honored with awards and appointments at the annual meeting of the Pennsylvania State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.

Hritz received the Outstanding Future Professional Award and the Violet Bumgarder Scholarship. Conference participants elected Fouts future professional vice president of the organization's executive board.

To receive the Bumgarder Scholarship, Hritz completed an application and was interviewed by past presidents for PSAHPERD.

Fouts ran for the executive board position. Randy Nichols, SRU professor of physical and health education, said Fouts gave a great speech and was selected for the position by students from other participating universities. Fouts joins Justin Schmeidel, a physical and health education major from Pittsburgh, who was elected to the board last year.

PSAHPERD is a non-profit education association working to promote quality physical and health education programs and professional development.
