SRU Jazz Combo performs at New Orleans convention

The Slippery Rock University Jazz Combo, under the direction of Jason Kush, associate professor of music, performed at the Jazz Education Network's International Convention in New Orleans Jan. 7.

The combo includes: Zachary Bickle, a senior from Lockport, New York; Clinton Bleil, a senior from Glensaw; Kenneth Farinelli, a senior from Cranberry Township; Kevin Farinelli, a senior from Cranberry Township; Adam Kantz, a freshman from Beaver Falls; Walker Martz, a senior from Butler; Steve Pachesky, a senior from North Huntingdon; Baylee Summerhill, a freshman from Vandergift; and Justin Vorp, a junior from Pittsburgh.

As part of the performance, the group premiered a piece written specifically for it, by Puerto Rican jazz saxophonist, Miguel Zenon.

JEN is a global non-profit 501(c)(3) organization based in Chicago that seeks to advance jazz education, promote performance and develop new audiences with more than 1,500 members in 23 countries.
