SRU’s Jordan Grady nominated for community service award
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Jordan Grady, a member of the SRU men's basketball team, has been nominated for the National Association of Basketball Coaches' 2016 Allstate Good Works Team award. The award is presented annually to a student-athlete who has shown dedication to service in his community through volunteerism and civic involvement.
Grady, who is currently pursuing an MBA, has been active on a number of fronts including: coordinating a charity golf tournament to benefit Relay for Life; serving as co-captain on a Relay for Life team alongside his mother, Susan, who is a cancer survivor; participated in "Read Across America"; helped prepare tax returns for low-income individuals and families, free of charge, through Volunteer Income Tax Assistance; and served as a youth mentor at the YMCA.
Two 10-member teams comprised of five student-athletes from the NCAA Division I level and five student-athletes from Divisions II, III and the NAIA will be selected from the 154 nominees,. The final roster of 20 award recipients will be announced later this month.
Members of the Allstate NABC Good Works Team will be invited to the 2016 NABC Convention and 2016 NCAA Men's Final Four in Houston, where they will participate in a community service project benefiting the city.
