SRU math majors earn contest honors

A quartet of Slippery Rock University mathematics majors earned meritorious honors at the recent Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling sponsored by the Consortium of Mathematics and its Applications.

Sophomores John Yannotty from Butler and Alex Barclay from Saegertown, and seniors Erik Vonkaenel from Erie and Charlie Quick from West Decatur took part in the international event, which is an extension of the Mathematical Contest in Modeling. It is designed to develop and advance interdisciplinary problem-solving skills as well as competence in written communication.

The meritorious rankings were given to the top 10 percent of the more than 8,000 teams, representing eight countries, that took part in the competition.
