SRU marketing students attend conference


A pair of Slippery Rock University business professors, Nan Nicholls and Kurt Schimmel, accompanied 13 students from SRU's chapter of the American Marketing Association to the AMA 38th Annual International Collegiate Conference in New Orleans.

The conference provided the SRU contingent a variety of educational and networking opportunities with marketing professionals and more than 1,400 other students from around the world.

Eleven SRU students, including Christian Alesius, a sophomore from North Huntingdon; Zach Baker a senior from Erie; Daniel Burtner, a senior from Butler; Kristen Check, a senior from Mars; Ryan Hoelke, a senior from North East; Erica Kernic, a senior from Cranberry; Miranda Leader, a senior from Chalfont; Ashley McCollum, a senior from Karns City; Valerie Robuck, a senior from Ridgway; Cheyenne Svihla, a senior from Burgettstown; and Richie Turri, a senior from North East, earned sales certificates following a three-hour workshop that included two role-play scenarios demonstrating the importance of building rapport and how to close a deal.
