SRU students earn honors at mathematical modeling contest

A group of six Slippery Rock University students earned honorable mention awards at the recent Mathematical Contest in Modeling sponsored by the Consortium of Mathematics and its Applications.

The MCM is an international contest for college undergraduates and challenges teams of students to clarify, analyze and propose solutions to open-ended problems. Nearly 9,000 teams from 13 countries participated in the competition.

Honorable mention awards went to:

  • Jacob Ciafre, a senior physics major from Oakdale;
  • Sean Ingimarson, a senior mathematics major from Pittsburgh;
  • Matthew Krowitz, a junior computing major from Pittsburgh;
  • Adam Giovanelli, a senior physics major from Plains;
  • Noah Shinn, a senior physics major from West Grove; and
  • Patrick Campoli, a senior physics major from Sharpsville
