SRU athletic communication staff earns national honors

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University athletic communication staff was honored with multiple publications awards in the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) annual publications contest.

Slippery Rock took top honors in the national contest for football program cover design, special event program cover design and overall special event program for the Big House Battle program. The Rock also earned second place in the national voting for overall football programs and single-sport programs.

Jon Holtz, director of athletic communication, designed the layout and covers of all game programs and provided all written content for the football programs and the Big House Battle program. Assistant director Tyler McIntosh and graduate assistant James Tinkey teamed with Holtz to provide content for the majority of the other sport programs throughout the year.

The CoSIDA honors mark the second time this year that "best in the nation" honors have been bestowed upon the SRU athletic communication staff for excellence in publications. Earlier this spring, the Big House Battle program was recognized as a "Gold Winner" by the Collegiate Advertising Awards.

"I want to thank Tyler and James for all of their incredible efforts throughout the year," said Holtz. "I can't imagine having a better staff than the one I have and we wouldn't be able to produce near the quality or quantity of the content we do without their efforts. I also want to thank Mike Schnelle of Apex Imaging Photography for his outstanding photography that enhances all of our game programs. Lastly, I want to thank all of our advertising partners that make it possible for us to continue producing these game programs that recognize and highlight our student-athletes."

Slippery Rock competes in the college division against other NCAA Division II and Division III institutions, along with NAIA and junior college institutions. All publications are judged by the CoSIDA publications contest committee utilizing a number of criteria that include design elements and content.
