Rock has 171 PSAC Scholar-Athletes in 2014-15
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - A total of 171 Slippery Rock University student-athletes were named as Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Scholar-Athletes for maintaining above a 3.25 grade point average during the 2014-15 academic year.
The conference as a whole set a new record with a total of 2,691 student-athletes from the 18 member institutions earning the honor, which is 38 percent of all student-athletes in the league. The total topped the previous record of 2,537 that was set last year and marks the seventh straight year that more than 30 percent of the total student-athlete population of the league has earned the honor.
Slippery Rock ranked above the league average and fifth overall with 41.4 percent (171) of its total student-athlete population (413) earning the honor. A total of 113 females and 58 males earned 2014-15 PSAC Scholar-Athlete designation.
"We're very proud of our student-athletes for representing Slippery Rock so well in the classroom in addition to their efforts in competition," said Paul Lueken, director of athletics. "We have always taken great pride in our student-athletes performing above average academically and this shows that trend continues to grow."
Among the 171 student-athletes honored, a total of 13 own a perfect 4.0 GPA.
