Rock field hockey wins PSAC Team GPA Award

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University field hockey team claimed its fourth consecutive Team GPA award from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference when the league announced its annual team academic awards July 9, 2015.

It was no surprise that The Rock field hockey team posted the best collective grade point average in the PSAC this year as it was already announced that the squad owned the highest GPA among all NCAA Division II field hockey teams at 3.592.

The SRU field hockey team is one of only four teams in any sport in the PSAC to win four consecutive team GPA awards.

In addition to the field hockey team receiving the top honor, Slippery Rock faired well overall in terms of student-athlete academic success. The Rock's student-athletes combined for a 3.206 collective GPA, well above the PSAC average of 3.108. Slippery Rock ranked fifth among all 18 institutions in the league in average GPA and ranked second among the 14 Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education institutions.

A total of 14 of Slippery Rock's 17 varsity athletic teams posted a collective GPA of 3.0 or above and 13 Rock teams ranked above the PSAC average for their respective sport.

The announcement of the team academic marks came in the same week the PSAC honored 171 individual Slippery Rock student-athletes as PSAC Scholar-Athletes for owning a GPA of 3.25 or better.
