SRU alumna named IUPUI interim athletic director
Alfreeda Goff, a 1965 Slippery Rock University health and physical education major, has been named the interim director of athletics at IUPUI (Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.) She most recently served as senior associate commissioner of the Horizon League.
In her work with the Horizon League, Goff oversaw all championships and was directly responsible for baseball, softball, indoor track and field, golf, men's soccer and volleyball. She was also tournament director for basketball. Before joining the Horizon League, she served as director of athletics at Virginia State University.
"I found the opportunity intriguing and I saw this as a chance to help somebody," Goff said. "I want to be there to help people. There are a lot of young coaches and a lot of seasoned coaches on staff. I can be a resource to all of them. I'm going to be the person people can bounce things off of."
Goff represented the Horizon League on the NCAA Division I Management Council from 1999 to 2004. She has also served on a number of other national committees, including the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Committee and Women's Basketball Issues Committee, NCAA Woman of the Year Committee, the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators' Executive Committee, and the NCAA Division I Track and Field Committee.
Goff is the 2005 Black Coaches Association's Administrator of the Year and former president of the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators.In addition to her SRU degree, she has a master's degree in health and physical education from Pennsylvania State University.
