SRU’s Mahmood awarded Fulbright scholarship


SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Rizwan Mahmood, Slippery Rock University professor of physics and pre-engineering, was awarded the Fulbright Award to Oman from the J. William Fulbright Scholarship Board. The FSB sends American scholars, professionals and artists abroad to lecture and/or conduct research for up to a year.

Mahmood received his bachelor of science and master of science degrees in physics from the University of Karachi, Pakistan. He received a master's of arts from the University of Texas, and a master's of arts and his doctorate in physics from Kent State University. His research specialty is experimental soft condensed matter physics where he studies physical and optical properties of exotic materials such as liquid crystals and graphene.
