Former swimmer joins elite club team

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Kevin Maksinchuk, a 2008 Slippery Rock University health and physical education major originally from Pittsburgh, has joined the Triangle Aquatic Center Titans age-group swim team. Head Coach Raz Cuparencu in Cary, N.C. heads the elite program.
Maksinchuk will continue to also serve as the Apex High School swim team head coach.  Prior to working for Wake County schools, he helped Triangle Aquatics by establishing rigorous training expectations and processes for the lifeguard program.

His 12-years coaching summer, year-round and high school swimming in both Pennsylvania and North Carolina gives him perspective on how to grow a champion swimmer.  "We want our young kids to swim fast and have great times, but the most important thing is how we help them grow as an athlete, giving the best technique instruction for long term success," he said.  While coaching in Pennsylvania he developed several regional, state, and zone qualifiers and expects to continue that success with the Titans.

Primarily a sprinter at SRU, he focused on short distances for the men's swim team and was recognized for his outstanding contribution in the 50-fly as a freshman swimmer, his first of three years placing in the PSAC championships.
