Music professor emeritus releases CD

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Nanette Kaplan Solomon, Slippery Rock University professor emerita of music, has released a new CD, "Badinage: The Piano Music of Mana-Zucca," on the Albany label.

Her CD pays tribute to the legendary Mana-Zucca (1885-1981, born Gussie Zuckermann), who was a child prodigy pianist, musical comedy star and patron of the arts in Miami, Florida. She composed more than 1,000 works.

Solomon said she admires Mana-Zucca's spirit and status as a woman pioneer of the piano. She researched Mana-Zucca's life during a sabbatical.

Solomon recorded the music in summer 2013 and presented it as a recital, "All Mana of Music," at SRU in Sept., 2013.

Solomon will be interviewed for a feature article in Fanfare Magazine in late fall. The CD can be purchased at (enter "Badinage" or "Nanette Kaplan Solomon") or at
