Sarah Patterson inducted into Athletic Hall of Fame


SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Sarah Patterson, a 1978 bachelor of science in physical education graduate and legendary collegiate gymnastics coach, was recently inducted into the Slippery Rock University Hall of Fame. Patterson, who recently stepped down as head coach of gymnastics at the University of Alabama, was a gymnast at SRU.  As Alabama's head coach she led the team to 1,006 career wins, six NCAA Division I team titles, 29 regional titles and 32 consecutive appearances in the NCAA National Championships. She coached her teams to eight SEC titles and led a total of 25 individual athletes to a national title. Patterson also pushed for academic excellence in her program. Her student-athletes were honored with 11 SEC postgraduate scholarships, five NCAA Elite 89 awards and 275 SEC Academic Honor Roll selections. Patterson coached a total of 302 All-Americans and 189 Scholastic All-Americans during her career. Her teams qualified for the national meet 32 straight years from 1983-2014.
