SRU students and faculty to present at art conference

A group of five Slippery Rock University students will make presentations at the Mid-America College Art Association Conference Oct. 26-28 at the University of Cincinnati's School of Art. The conference will examine evolving fine art practices and their contexts, as well as scholarship about them.
Clare Clark, a sophomore environmental science major from Brookville; Mikaela Skiljo, a senior art major from Sharon; and Tyra Welsh, a junior art major from New Castle, will present "The Sailcloth Art Project: Art Advocates for Interdisciplinary Awareness."
Kathryn Fitzgerald, a senior art major from Pittsburgh, will speak on the art of metalsmithing; and Bernard Stote, a senior art major from Grove City, will present on the process of painting.
Also presenting at the conference will be Akiko Kotani, professor emerita of art, on the healing power of art; and Heather Hertel, associate professor of art, who is serving as a session chair.
