SRU business interns tackle 2,320 tax returns

Student interns from the Slippery Rock University College of Business filed 2,320 tax returns for local residents and helped secure more than $2.9 million in tax refunds for the 2016 filing year, according to information released at a meeting at the Butler County Center for Community Resources.

Through the Internal Revenue Service's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, the VITA-IRS has helped Butler County residents receive $17 million in tax refunds since 2009.

As part of the meeting, representatives from the COB toured the community resources center, reviewed its mission and discussed its future expansion plans to better serve the community.
