Christou takes first place at Williamson Memorial Scholarship
Samantha Christou, a soprano and music major from Slippery Rock, captured first place at the recent Chad Williamson Memorial Scholarship competition.
The scholarship, which provides tuition support to three SRU students, honors the late Chad Williamson. Williamson, a Slippery Rock Area High School graduate, planned to study music at SRU but was killed in a traffic accident prior to his freshman year.
Williamson won a $500 scholarship with her vocal performances of "Quando m'en vo" by Giacomo Puccini and "Joy" by Ricky Ian Gordon. Mara Flannery, a mezzo-soprano and music therapy major from Butler, finished second and was awarded a $250 scholarship; while Emma Martin, a soprano and music therapy major from Mineral Point, finished third, securing a $100 scholarship.
