Hersperger featured for using social media to recruit students
Kayla Hersperger, online and design communication specialist for enrollment services at Slippery Rock University, was recently featured in an online column by Christine Birkner, features editor for Marketing News and Marketing News Weekly, about her success in leading the University's efforts to utilize social media to recruit students.
Hersperger, who offered tips for recruiting students utilizing social media at the AMA Symposium for the Marketing of Higher Education in Chicago, said the University has increased enrollment over the past two and a half years by implementing an Instagram and Twitter strategy. Hersperger told the Marketing News, "We (SRU) interact with students who are tweeting about Slippery Rock University on a daily basis: typically, when they come for a visit, at the application stage and at the offer stage."
The University promotes its Twitter and Instagram accounts at college fairs and high school visits with postcards that include their social media profiles and the hashtag #srubound, she said.
"The millennial generation wants you to come to them," she told conference attendees. "I'm a millennial, so I know. I don't want to jump through hoops. If you want to set yourself apart, you should communicate with prospective students on social media."
