SRU music majors capture awards at competition

Three Slippery Rock University students won awards at the Nov. 12 Tri-State National Association of Teachers of Singing student competition at West Virginia University. More than 125 students took part in the event.

SRU students and their awards are:

Logan Smith, tenor, a music/vocal performance major from Plum, won 1st place in the sophomore men classical division with John Charles Sacco's "Brother Will, Brother John";

Chase Upchurch, tenor, a music therapy/voice major from Leechburg, won 1st place in the lower musical theater division with Jeanine Tesori's "What Do I Need with Love"; and

Samantha Christou, soprano, a music therapy/voice major from Pittsburgh, earned honorable mention in the senior women classical division with Ricky Ian Gordon's "Joy"
