DANCE IN INDIA INITIATIVE PLANS FUNDRAISING LECTURE, DEMO NOV. 19

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University’s Dance in India Initiative will present a fundraisinglecture-demonstration at 8 p.m. Nov. 19 in the Pearl K. Stoner Instructional Complex. Prior to the demonstration, a henna hand-painting for audience members and a display of Indian cultural objects will be offered.

Amanda O'Brien, a 2004 SRU graduate, and Kiley Durst, a senior dance major from New Castle, will perform  dances they learned in Chennai, India, while studying classical Indian dance for five weeks last summer. They were the first two participants in the Dance in India Initiative, a collaborative project between SRU’s dance and sociology/anthropology/social work departments. Jaya Mani's “World Dance” class will also perform. Mani, a guest artist in the dance department, will also present a demonstration on sari wrapping.

Admission is $2 for students and $5 for general admission.
