DISSERTATION:
"Species Problems": William G. Lycan (director)
The focus of the dissertation is a critical evaluation of
conceptions of species in contemporary biology. I argue that
species can be conceived of in terms of "lineages" and that so
conceiving of them provides a framework within which to resolve
problems of two sorts: problems arising from the role of
species in biological classification and problems arising from the
alleged role of species in evolutionary processes.
