SRU TRADITIONAL ‘EMPTY BOWLS’ LUNCH/DINNER SET FOR NOV. 22

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The traditional “Empty Bowls” lunch and dinner sponsored by Slippery Rock University’s Institute for Community, Service-Learning and Nonprofit Leadership will again focus on the need to help solve local, national and world hunger.

Set for 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. and 5 to 6:30 p.m. Nov. 22 in the University Union, the project will provide funds to the Feed My Sheep Food Cupboard in Slippery Rock, the Butler County Area Agency on Aging and ongoing institute food programs. This year’s “Empty Bowls” event is being held in conjunction with the campus and communitywide food drive running Nov. 15-22. Nonperishable food items are being collected in all major classroom buildings on campus in a project spearheaded by the university’s College of Education.

Tickets are $15 for non-students and $7.50 for students (RockDollars may be used). Tickets may be purchased at SRU residence halls, at the institute’s Lowry Center office, at the SRU University Bookstore in the University Union, Slippery Rock True Value Hardware, Java Rock Café, and at the door.

Ceramic bowls, made by SRU art students and students at both Slippery Rock and New Castle high schools, used at the event are to be taken home to serve as reminders of world hunger. The meal will include homemade soup, bread and beverage.

Those with questions should contact the institute at 724-738-2273.
