TRADITIONAL ‘EMPTY BOWLS’ LUNCH/DINNER SET FOR NOV.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The traditional “Empty
Bowls” lunch and dinner sponsored by Slippery Rock
University’s Institute for Community, Service-Learning and
Nonprofit Leadership will again focus on the need to help solve
local, national and world hunger.
Set
for 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. and 5 to 6:30 p.m. Nov. 22 in the
University Union, the project will provide funds to the Feed My
Sheep Food Cupboard in Slippery Rock, the Butler County Area Agency
on Aging and ongoing institute food programs. This year’s
“Empty Bowls” event is being held in conjunction with
the campus and communitywide food drive running Nov. 15-22.
Nonperishable food items are being collected in all major classroom
buildings on campus in a project spearheaded by the
university’s College of Education.
Tickets
are $15 for non-students and $7.50 for students (RockDollars may be
used). Tickets may be purchased at SRU residence halls, at the
institute’s Lowry Center office, at the SRU University
Bookstore in the University Union, Slippery Rock True Value
Hardware, Java Rock Café, and at the door.
Ceramic
bowls, made by SRU art students and students at both Slippery Rock
and New Castle high schools, used at the event are to be taken home
to serve as reminders of world hunger. The meal will include
homemade soup, bread and beverage.
