MUSICIANS’ CONCERT BAND, HOLIDAY CHORUS

TO PERFORM SUNDAY AT SLIPPERY ROCK UNIVERSITY

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. –  “Light Up the Season” will be the theme for Sunday’s [Dec. 5] Musicians’ Concert Band and Holiday Chorus performance in Slippery Rock University’s Miller Auditorium.

The holiday music concert opens at 4 p.m. with the band directed by Blasé Scarnati, professor emeritus of music at SRU, and the chorus directed by LaDonna Linamen, a member of the band’s trumpet section and an employee in SRU’s facility and planning department.

Donations will be accepted at the door.

The band’s portion of the concert will include “Lullaby Carols,” “Rhythm of the Winds,” “Alleluia! Laudamus Te” “Exaltation” “C’est Noel!” and “Kris Kringle’s Jingle” directed by Scarnati, with Leroy Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride” and “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day” conducted by Michael C. Formeck, associate conductor.

The holiday chorus, which has been part of the holiday concert since 2000, will join the band for “A Christmas Serenade,” “I Wonder as I Wander,” “Do You Hear What I Hear” and Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus.”

The concert will end with “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”

The 100-piece band was formed in 1986 as part of the community band movement begun in the 19th century. It has been under the direction of Scarnati since it formation. Scarnati served as conductor of bands at SRU until his retirement in 1996.
