 SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Tracey Santiago, a Slippery Rock University nursing student living and working outside Houston, Texas, will be on campus Saturday [Dec. 17] to receive her diploma even though she has not been on campus since the early 1990s.

» SRU to Award 475 Diplomas at Winter Commencement: Auntie Anne's Founder to Speak
 SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. –  When Slippery Rock University awards nearly 475 diplomas on Dec. 17 all of them will be special, but one will be extra special, the one going to Burnell Smucker whose aunt, Anne F. Beiler, founder of Auntie Anne’s Inc., franchisor of the world’s largest mall-based pretzel franchise, is the commencement speaker.

» SRU President Tells Trustees Applications for Enrollment Increasing
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Slippery Rock University President Robert M. Smith told the university’s council of trustees applications for enrollment are up 38 percent from last year and the acceptance rate is approximately 55 percent compared with 63 percent a year ago, reflecting more rigorous admission standards.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The Snyder Charitable Foundation based in Kittanning has committed $250,000 to help construct Slippery Rock University’s new $14.4 million Science and Technology Building, slated for opening next spring. The building will include a formal lobby named for the Snyder family following announcement of the family foundation’s gift in support of the campus project.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Internationally acclaimed opera singer Marianne Cornetti, a Butler County native, returns to Slippery Rock University Dec. 10 to present a scholarship benefit concert. The opera star’s performance at SRU a year ago raised $3,000, and this fall she helped create the Marianne Cornetti Scholarship to support music education students.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Up to 1,500 regional high school band musicians will visit Slippery Rock University Nov. 5 for the first-ever “The Rock Showcase of Champions” featuring the top seven bands from southwestern Pennsylvania in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Marching Band Association Championships and the top seven bands in the northwestern Pennsylvania Lakeshore Marching Band Association Championships.

» SRU Continues Enrollment Growth Sixth Year in a Row: Record Now 8,105
  SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – With an official enrollment number of 8,105, Slippery Rock University continues its sixth, straight academic year of enrollment increases, besting last year’s enrollment by 177 students and setting an all-time record. The year also finds an all-time record in credit hours undertaken standing at 113,156.

» SRU Computer Science Programs Earn 6 Prestigious Computing Accreditations
