Drop, Add, Withdrawal from classes for the
semester
Dropping Courses
Students may drop
courses using yellow Drop/Add cards or the Rock Talk telephone and
online systems during the first week of the semester. Only the
student's signature is required to DROP any course with the
exception of Basic Competency courses that cannot be dropped after
the semester has started. After the first week of the semester
classes may still be dropped by using the University's Rock Talk
system, which will remain open until 7:30 am the following Monday
morning. At 7:30 am, the Rock Talk system will be closed; student
will no longer be permitted to drop classes and they must withdraw
from their courses with grades of "W." An advisor's signature is
encouraged but not required.
Adding Courses
Students may add courses using yellow Drop/Add cards or by using the
Rock Talk telephone and online systems during the first week of
classes. After the first week of the semester, classes may be
added on the University's Rock Talk system, which will remain open
until 7:30 am the following Monday morning. At 7:30 am, the Rock
Talk system will be closed. After 7:30 Monday morning,
students may continue to add classes through the end of the second
Friday of the semester, but only by processing a Drop/Add
card.
During the first week
of the semester, only the student's signature is required to add
OPEN classes during the second week of the semester, the
instructor's signature is also required to add OPEN classes, and
the card must be processed in the Office of Academic Records.
To add CLOSED courses, or courses in which the appropriate
pre/co-requisites have not been taken, the instructor's signature
is always required. An advisor's signature is encouraged but
not required.
Withdrawing from Classes
After 7:30 am Monday of the second week of classes, students may no
longer drop courses and must withdraw with a grade of "W." Blue
Withdrawal cards must be used to withdraw from courses. For full
semester classes, a "W" will be recorded as a grade through the end
of the tenth week of classes. After that date, students may not
withdraw from classes and will be held accountable for and graded
on all coursework, exams, etc., assigned during the last 5 weeks of
the semester. The withdrawal deadline for courses meeting fewer
than 15 weeks will be two-thirds of the way through the course's
beginning and ending dates. Student may not use Rock Talk to
withdraw from courses. The student and his/her advisor and
instructor must sign withdrawal cards. Students are not permitted
to withdraw from Basic Competency courses.
Students dropping or withdrawing from any course
should be aware this could affect financial aid, athletic
eligibility and/or graduation. If students have any questions
concerning any of these issues, they should contact their advisor
or the Financial Aid, Intercollegiate Athletics or Academic Records
offices.
A $15 late fee will be assessed for each drop, add
or withdrawal transaction (not card) approved by the student's Dean
or Director of Retention Services and received in the Office of
Academic Records & Summer School after the deadlines noted
above.
