Church and State
Advanced Technology Science Hall
6:00 P.M.
Sponsored by the Office of Intercultural Programs
On Tuesday, November 13, 2007 the Office of Intercultural Programs will once again present the "State of America" panel discussion. The topic for this session is "Separation Church and State"
The purpose of this program is to contribute to the bridging of racial and cultural divides. The "State of America" panel discussion addresses topics including but not limited to the perception of women, people of color, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals, spirituality, the role of fraternities and sororities, and young professionals in higher education as it pertains to historically bypassed groups.
Respect throughout the university for the dignity and rights of others, including the right to be free from discrimination and harassment and the right to speak freely, is essential to creating and maintaining an environment conducive to learning. As an institution of higher education, Slippery Rock University can play an essential role in encouraging and educating our students and community. This program event will focus on fostering an understanding and appreciation of the many cultures that exist within the SRU community and across the nation.
"State of America" is an excellent opportunity to expose the faculty, staff and students to current cultural issues and increase their understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity as well as challenge the SRU community to participate in activities and help them realize the benefits of living in a multicultural world. This will provide shared learning opportunities designed to increase awareness, acquire knowledge, and develop competencies that will strengthen our campus community, broaden our understanding of diversity, and promote mutual respect and multicultural sensitivity.
