Dr. Dennis E. Murray has been Superintendent of the
Altoona Area School District for the past 21 years. He has
broad-based educational experience, having also served as Assistant
Superintendent, Supervisor of Elementary Education, School Board
Member, I.U. Board Member, Vocational-Technical School Chief
Administrator, Student Teaching Coordinator, College Professor,
College Administrator, and a member of the Board of Trustees for
various state universities.
He has served as a Trustee at Slippery Rock University since April,
1997. Dr. Murray assumed the role of Chairperson in September,
2005.
Dr. Murray holds degrees from Slippery Rock University and
Pennsylvania State University. He has been the recipient of many
prestigious educational awards, including the Phi Delta Kappa
Educational Leadership Award, University of Pittsburgh's
Distinguished Educator Award and awards from Penn State University
including the Educational Leadership and Management Award and the
Excellence in Education Award from the Penn State Alumni
Association.
He enjoys frequent trips to Ireland, walking, and spending time
with his grandchildren, Michael, Amanda, Danny, Matthew, and
Andrew. |
