A KALEIDOSCOPE
EVENT –
EXPANDED SRU
CHILDREN’S DAY SET FOR APRIL 16; ALL EVENTS
FREE
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – A
children’s adaptation of “The Tempest,” puppet
shows and a choir performance by Moraine Elementary School students
are new to “Children’s Day” on April 16,
the opening event of Slippery Rock University’s nine-day
Kaleidoscope arts festival. Children’s activities, from
10 a.m. to 3 p.m., are free.
Many SRU students involved themselves in
Children’s Day, said Dr. Diana Dreyer, assistant to the dean
of the College of Humanities, Fine and Performing
Arts.
Youngsters enrolled in classes taught by
SRU dance majors will perform. Art students will assist with art
activities. Music majors will perform with jazz and brass
ensembles. Theater students will stage the puppet show
“Robbed on the Way to the Globe,” as well as the
production of “The Tempest.” Elementary education
students will lead story-telling sessions.
“Our goal is to heighten awareness of
the arts and humanities to inspire and entertain children of all
ages,” Dreyer says.
Events will be held on Morrow Way, next to
the Russell Wright Alumni House. If it rains, they’ll be
moved to Pearl K. Stoner Instructional Complex. The

SRU’s College
of Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts launched Kaleidoscope four
years ago to promote the arts, showcase the talent of students and
faculty and build relationships within the
region.
The festival runs April 16-24 and includes
concerts, a film festival, a lecture/performance by poet Arnold
Adoff and his son Jaimie, a sitar concert, plays, a flute concert,
dance recitals and an outdoor sculpture exhibit featuring student
artwork. Go to www.sru.edu/pages/916.asp
