KITE-MAKING, PLANETARIUM SHOWS, ORGANIC
BEER-MAKING WORKSHOP PART OF SRU’S APRIL 23 ‘EARTH
FESTIVAL’; EVENTS FREE
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Kites for
children, a planetarium show, hands-on education stations and an
organic beer-making workshop are among the activities organized for
the 15th Earth Festival April 23 at Slippery Rock
University’s Robert A. Macoskey Center for Sustainable
Systems Education and Research.
Free and open
to the public, events will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
atthe center on Harmony Road, across from N. Kerr
Thompson Football Stadium. Since 1991, Earth Festival has
energized the community about sustainability and the environment
with fun and educational activities for all ages, Macoskey director
Thomas Reynolds said.
This year, the center honors its founder,
the late Dr. Robert A. Macoskey, professor of philosophy, with a
memorial tree planting at 12:30 p.m. The planting is a
tribute to the continuing legacy of Macoskey on what would have
been his 75th birthday.
Earth Festival
will also feature a sustainable marketplace featuring locally made
crafts, as well as food and beverages.

will be held throughout the day and include:

The Portable Planetarium Experience

Earth Quest: Hunt for the Earth Guardian

The “It's My Earth!” interactive learning

The Salvage Art Puppet Troupe
Adult
activities include:

Hybrid-car demonstration
•
Organic beer-making workshop presented by the North Country Brewing
Co. (must be 21 to participate, no tasting)

Apple tree grafting workshop
•
Soap-making workshop
•
Bio-diesel making workshop
•
Performances by the Pittsburgh-based “The Rank
Strangers” bluegrass band and “Healthy Forest
Initiative,” a local musical group.
