A KALEIDOSCOPE EVENT --
SRU’S ANNUAL ‘BRAVE NEW
PLAYS’ TO OFFER PREMIERES, ORIGINAL STUDENT
WORKS
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.
– A complete round of cutting-edge stage dramas will be part
of “Brave New Plays,” including one-act,
student-written works and two, world premieres of one-act works
written by New York City playwrights. The plays will be staged in
Slippery Rock University’s “Brave New Plays”
program, part of the annual, nine-day Kaleidoscope arts
festival.
The plays will be
staged in Miller Auditorium. All shows are recommended for mature
audiences.
The
student-produced, one-act plays will be offered at 8 p.m. April 15,
21 and 23 with a 2 p.m. matinee set for April 17. The 10-minute,
student-written plays will be offered at 8 p.m. April 16, 20 and
22, and 2 p.m. April 24. A work titled “Flying Solo,”
offering six, one-person, student-written, one-act plays will be
offered at 8 p.m. April 18-19.
Students will stage
Adam Kraar’s “A Woman of Rumora,” a comical,
surreal take on life, love and rediscovering the truths in our
hearts, and Bill McMahon’s “Missing the 4:55,”
which tells of a life-changing encounter between two morning
commuters.
The student-written
works range from a deathbed reconciliation between a jazz musician
and his son, to the dark and fateful meting of two businessmen in a
bar.

will be held at the box office.
Kaleidoscope, begun
four years ago as a regional art festival, opens Saturday [April
16] with a “Children’s Day” of arts events staged
outside the Russell Wright Alumni House and a “Quilt
Show.” Sunday will see a 4 p.m. piano concert by Joanne
Rogers and Jeannine Morrison.
