The optimal time to present a portfolio is during an interview.
You can take one of two approaches to introducing a portfolio in an
interview. With both methods you need to keep in mind that the
amount of attention the interviewer can give to your portfolio will
be limited. It is important that you are highly selective about
what information is presented.
- Ask the interviewer if he or she would like to examine it upon
initially entering the interview room. Showcase examples that
demonstrate the scope of your ability as you flip through sections
of your portfolio. Explain the purpose of each section as you refer
to it.
OR
- Wait until a question comes up about a competency that can be
demonstrated by showing an item in your portfolio. When the
interviewer begins to ask questions about your background, use your
portfolio to support your responses.
