Why a Second Interview?
  • By doing a deeper analysis of your qualifications, the organization can gain confirmation on making you a job offer.
  • You are given the opportunity to experience the office culture and staff, thereby ensuring you will make an informed decisions if you are given a job offer.

How are second interview questions different?
  • They are designed to asses your fit with the companies in areas like work environment, communication style, your ability to work in a group or alone, and what experiences you have to offer.
  • You will need to be able to clearly demonstrate how you can connect your skills and abilities to the specific position you are considering.

What can I do to prepare?
  • RESEARCH. Specifically on products and future goals of the company.
  • The more prepared you are for the interview, the more the potential employer can see your enthusiasm, motivation, and thoroughness as favorable assets.

What can I expect the day to be like?
  • First thing is first--Report to your contact person, and get an overview of the schedule.
  • Usual morning--Meet with various departments for interviews and exposure to the position being filled and the staff.
  • Second interviews usually last the entire day, so plan ahead for that possibility.
  • A tour of the facility is common.
  • Testing for writing and/or mathematical skills, personality testing, drug testing, and others related to the position may be performed at this time.
  • A possible lunch with selected staff may be planned to observe your behavior and personality.
  • You might expect to meet with the Human Resource staff to answer your questions, explain follow-up, reimbursement for expenses, and any final business.
  • Finally, be sure to send a thank you letter to the contact person extending your interest in the position, highlight your qualifications and provide a general sense of enthusiasm for the job.

Who is responsible for my trip expenses?
  • Reimbursement for expenses can vary dramatically; make sure you clarify the employer's policy before committing to a visit.
  • Airline tickets, lodging, baggage handling, taxies/bus fare, meals, automobile mileage, and parking need to be taken into consideration.
  • Use common sense on purchases or expenditures that the company agrees to cover. They will be reviewed as part of consideration for the position.
