Biography:

 

Jeff Smith has spent his entire professional career involved in outdoor adventure education, recreation and leading students and clients on adventure trips.  He holds a Master of Science in Natural Resource Management and Environmental Education. His extensive experience includes whitewater river guide/trip leader and guide trainer on rivers of the United States and rivers abroad.  He has been involved in rock climbing, ice climbing, mountaineering, surfing, and white water kayaking expeditions in various locations around the world including the U.S., Mexico, the French/Swiss/Italian Alps as well as the Himalayan Mountains and rivers of Nepal.  In addition, he has served as Coordinator/Counselor of Outdoor programs at Youth Alternatives in Northwestern Pennsylvania, Coordinator of the “Center for Outdoor Recreational Experience” (CORE) at Edinboro University, and presently as Instructor of Outdoor Adventure Education at Slippery Rock University. 

 

Jeff has presented, lectured, and led hands-on-demonstrations at the local, regional, state, national, and international levels.  His presentations include Pennsylvania State Association for Health Physical Education Recreation and Dance (PSAHPERD), American Association for Physical Activity and Recreation (AAPAR), Association of Outdoor Recreation and Education (AORE), and the International Boating Safety Summit to name a few.  Recently, he was invited to China where he presented at five separate Universities to audiences of faculty members and graduate students. He also continues to work closely with many public schools and organizations in the Western Pennsylvania region.
