SRU THEATER DEPARTMENT TO OFFER 17TH CENTURY
WORK
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.
– John Ford’s 1630 Jacobean tragedy “’Tis a
Pity She’s A Whore” will open the Slippery Rock
University theater season in Miller Auditorium on Oct.
12.
Written near the
time of Shakespeare, the play tells of a tragic love affair between
a couple that tears society apart and drives others mad with
jealousy, rage, desperation and lust. The story surrounds a young
couple, Giovanni (played by Nicholas Ciesielski of Bridgeville) and
his sister, Annabella (played by Erin Berger of Beaver).
Curtains are at 8
p.m. Oct. 12-15 and 2 p.m. Oct. 16. (A pre-performance technical
run through will be offered Oct. 11 to benefit the Chase Carlson
Memorial Scholarship created in memory of the theater major who
died in August. Contributions to the scholarship may also be made
by sending checks to the SRU Foundation, Inc., 100 Old Main,
Slippery Rock, Pa. 16057.)
Tickets may
be purchased by calling the Miller Auditorium Box Office at
724-738-2645, in-person Mondays through Fridays from 2 to 5 p.m.,
on line at theatreboxoffice@sru.edu, or one-hour before show time.
General admission is $5 general public; $3 for SRU
students.
The play,
directed by Dr. David Skeele, professor of theater at SRU, also
includes a friar, played by Shaun Starke of Butler, and a cardinal,
played by Dennis Whalen of Evan City, both of whom to aid and
destroy the two lovers. Others in the cast are Jeff Feola of New
Castle, Eric Blackstock of Monroeville, Ryan Powell of West
Middlesex, Randi Gartner of Pulaksi, Mary Sack of Downington, Alan
Wildy of Gibsonia, Bridget Kelly of Poland, Ohio, Terence Jamison
of St. Petersburg, Fla., Andrea Carlin of Montrose, and Matt McNear
of Beaver.
Gordon
Phetteplace, theater department chair, is serving as scene and
lighting designer, assisted by Braden Blauser, of Parker,
SRU’s John Pivetz is technical director; Rebecca Morrice, an
assistant professor of theatre, is costume designer.
