SRU TO PUT ‘FOCUS ON FRENCH’ IN
WEEK OF CULTURE SPOTLIGHT
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.
– The art of France will be highlighted Nov 7-10 when
Slippery Rock University marks “Focus on French Week”
displaying the works of painter Michele Caillaud-Houel and sculptor
Thierry Cayo in a salute to contemporary French artists.
The week opens with
a display of the contemporary artists’ works in the lobby of
Carruth Rizza Hall on Nov. 10-11, including a 4 p.m. reception and
presentation by the artists in the Russell Wright Alumni House on
Nov. 10.
The week will also
include the showing of “Tanguy,” a recent French comedy
at 4 p.m. Nov. 7 in Carruth Rizza, Room 212, with French crepes
served. The artists’ works have been exhibited in numerous
French galleries as well as in China and Morocco. An hour of French
games will be offered at 12:30 p.m. Nov. 8 on the Bailey Library
Quad, and SRU French majors will offer presentations on various
aspects of the cultures of Francophone countries at 12:30 p.m. Nov.
10 in Carruth Rizza, Room 203, including a French
luncheon.
The week is
sponsored by SRU’s modern languages and cultures department,
the French Club, the Office of International Services, the
Title VI European Studies Grant, and the Office of the Dean of
Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts.
