Nicholas DeRosa, a New Castle
native, has returned to the Slippery Rock University Council of
Trustees following appointment by Gov. Edward Rendell and
confirmation of the Pennsylvania Senate. He was named to a six-year
term.
Mr. DeRosa previously served on the Council from 1981 through 1999,
including six years as vice chair and four years as chair.
He has been assistant superintendent of the New Castle Area School
District since 1989 and previously spent 18 years as an elementary
teacher, three years as an administrative assistant and three years
as a kindergarten and elementary school principal.
A graduate of New Castle Senior High School, Mr. DeRosa earned his
bachelor of science degree from Youngstown State University, his
master's degree in supervision and curriculum from Westminster
College and has undertaken doctorate work at the University of
Pittsburgh. He holds an Elementary and Secondary Administrator's
Certificate from Westminster College and an Assistant
Superintendent and Superintendent Certification from YSU.
His professional memberships include the Association for
Supervision and Curriculum Development and the Pennsylvania
Planning Association. He is a former member of the American
Federation of Teachers, the Pennsylvania State Education
Association, and the Pennsylvania League of Cities.
In addition to serving SRU, Mr. DeRosa has served as a New Castle
councilman, including seven years as council president. He is a
10-year member of the Lawrence County Planning Commission,
including two years as vice-chair, and two years as chair, and is a
former director of Allied Human Services Board. He spent six years
on the New Castle Area School District Drug and Alcohol Task Force
and is a volunteer with the Easter Seal Society, American Heart
Association, American Cancer Society, Muscular Dystrophy and the
Mayor's Drug and Alcohol Task Force. He has served as president of
the National Association of Wolves and is a member of a number of
civic and fraternal organizations, including parent-teacher
organizations, youth recreational activities, and local
charities. |
