SRU TO OFFER FREE, EIGHT-SESSION STOP-SMOKING PROGRAM BEGINNING FEB. 1

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University will offer a free, quit-smoking program titled “SmokeStoppers” open to students, faculty, staff and community members beginning Feb. 1.

SmokeStoppers is a smoking-cessation program that has been available for more than 20 years and reportedly has helped nearly 2 million people quit smoking or cut back. The program is presented by Community Health Challenge, a local non-profit organization dedicated to health, and is made possible by a grant from Adagio Health and the Pennsylvania Department of Health. The program is being offered at SRU through the efforts of SRU’s Pennsylvania Students Working Against Tobacco. The program works to reduce tobacco use on campus and in the community.

The intensive 90-minute sessions will begin at 7 p.m. in the University Union on Feb. 1, 6-9, 13, 15 and 20.

Seating is limited and those planning to attend are required to register by calling Dr. Catherine Massey, assistant professor of psychology, at 724-738-2532.
