Center for Student Research

The SRU Center for Student Research supports and promotes high-quality student/faculty collaborative research, scholarship and creative activity.

Our mission is to create a community of learners by facilitating the exchange of ideas, to provide a collegial venue that prepares students for further scholarly exploration and professional careers, and to promote scholarly inquiry as a fundamental value of the SRU experience. This will be achieved by providing students with:

  • A resource center for faculty and student use with materials and information related to research and scholarship;
  • Funding for research projects through the Faculty/Student Research Grant Program; and
  • A venue to showcase the collaborative efforts through the Symposium for Student Research and Scholarship.

2008 Symposium for Student Research and Scholarship

The 2008 Symposium for Student Research and Scholarship is a two day event designed to showcase undergraduate and graduate student research, scholarship, and creative activity. Students from all academic fields are eligible to participate. Submissions must have a faculty sponsor. Faculty from all departments are encouraged to select undergraduate and graduate students who have submitted outstanding upper-level research papers and projects and to work with these students in crafting a 300 word abstract/summary for submission. Accepted abstracts will be published in the Journal of Scholarly Endeavor, and the authors of these abstracts will have the choice of creating a poster for display or doing a 20 minute presentation of their project. Subject to the discretion of a panel of judges, prizes of $250 will be awarded to students in each of the four Colleges for the best projects. Abstracts/summaries will be accepted between January 1st 2008 and February 11th 2008.
