SPECIAL NOTE FROM PRESIDENT
SMITH
Slippery Rock
University
Office of the President
300 Old Main
February 10, 2006
On behalf of the Slippery Rock
University community, I extend our deepest sympathy to the parents,
other family members and friends of Laura Moore, who died Tuesday
night.
Laura was a freshman who came to us
as a graduate of Pittsburgh’s Schenley High School. She
became a vibrant part of our campus community in her short time
here. An exercise science major with a goal of becoming a physical
therapist, Laura was a member of our Illusions Twirling Squad and
quickly became a friend to many students.
Several of those friends are
planning a campus memorial service in her honor. Details will be
posted here as soon as we know them. We will also share with you
any information we have about funeral arrangements in
Pittsburgh.
Students who may be especially
struggling with this tragedy are urged to call the University
Counseling Center at 724-738-2034 to schedule a time to meet with a
counselor.

Laura Moore, 18, was found by
friends in her Harner Hall room, Tuesday at approximately 10
p.m. The community assistant in the residence hall
immediately summoned an ambulance and University Police who
attempted to revive her. As common procedure, Pennsylvania State
Police and the Butler County coroner were called to the scene and
have been investigating. An autopsy was performed yesterday and
determined there was no foul play involved in her death. A more
complete report will be issued after toxicology test results are
available, which normally takes seven to 10 days. Those with
questions or concerns are invited to call University Public
Relations at 724-738-2091.
