BUSINESS EDITOR TO KEYNOTE RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.—“Research for the Rest of Us: Practical Applications from a Journalist Perspective” will be the topic for the plenary address at Slippery Rock University’s Symposium for Research and Scholarship to be held March 30-31 in the University Union.

“Few of us get an opportunity to do the kind of laboratory and advanced research that leads to important innovations in our society,” says Lauren Lawley Head, editor of the Pittsburgh Business Times, the region’s leading business journal. “But, whether we are a teacher, salesperson, manager, or a journalist, we must find ways to gather and process vast amounts of data into research that we can use.”

Lawley Head’s discussion will be from 12:30 to 1:30 in the Multi-Purpose Room of the University Union on March 30.

“With a background in both economics and journalism, we thought Ms. Lawley Head would bring a slightly different perspective to our symposium and help us show that research is something not just for scientists and educators,” says Dr. Theresa Wajda, School of Business faculty member and chair of this year’s symposium. “Her keynote should be especially interesting to communication and English majors and students in the School of Business.”

Following Lawley Head’s address, presentations from more than 50 research projects by students and faculty are schedule over the two days. “We have had a terrific response with some 60 abstracts submitted this year. Our committee is hoping for a good turnout of students and faculty to hear the presentations,” Wajda says.
