» SRU Jazz Ensemble Concert to Launch Summer European Tour; Other Concerts Set
 SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – A send-off performance for the Slippery Rock University Jazz Ensemble’s summer European tour, including concerts in Switzerland, Holland, France and Germany,  along with an “Evening of Brass,” and a performance by the Three River’s Jazz Orchestra are on the music calendar at SRU.

» SRU to Again Host U.S. Army's Jazz Ambassadors in Free June 27 Concert
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The U.S. Army Field Band Jazz Ambassadors, the Army’s premier touring jazz orchestra with appearances in all 50 states, returns to Slippery Rock University for a free concert at 7 p.m. June 27 in Miller Auditorium. The group’s performance at SRU last year was a "sellout."

» SRU Honors Faculty for Dedicated Service
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. –  Slippery Rock University honored 45 faculty for their years of dedicated service, including Dr. John Nichols, professor of history for 40 years at the annual spring semester Academic Assembly held by President Robert M Smith.

» SRU Financial Planning Team Takes Third in Nation
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University financial planning student team of Jeramy Genaway and Eric Lewis, both of Prospect, and Stephen Sullivan of Slippery Rock, has placed third and earned SRU a $1,000 scholarship in the National Finals of the Ameriprise Financial Planning Invitational held recently in Minneapolis.

» SRU Theater Department to Host 3-Night Theater Festival
 SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – A three-night theater festival offering nine, 10-minute, student-written plays touching on death, love triangles, family issues, homosexuality, male friendship, politics and other everyday facets of life, a night of student-written, one-person monologues and a production of Dr. David Skeele’s “Dark North” are being planned for May 2-4 at Slippery Rock University.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. –  The 7:30 p.m. Tuesday [April 25] performance of the Anna Sokolow Archive Company set for Succop Theatre at Butler County Community College has been cancelled.

» SRU Walwik Lecture to Examine 'Ethics, Law and Technology in Open Society'
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. –  Slippery Rock University’s Second Annual Walwik Lecture, named for SRU Professor Emeritus Dr. Theodore Walwik, will present Brian O’Connell, associate professor of computing and philosophy at Central Connecticut State University addressing “Ethics, Law and Technology in an Open Society” on Tuesday [April 25].

» SRU Senior Computer Science Team Captures First Place in Statewide Competition
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University’s senior computer programming team captured first place in last Saturday’s Pennsylvania Computer and Information Science Educators besting some 20 other teams from across the state.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – If donors contribute at least $750 for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life April 22-23 at Slippery Rock University, SRU biology faculty Dr. Mark Shotwell says he will shave his head – in public.

» Harry M. Warner Film Festival Opens This Week; 23 Entries to be Shown
 SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. –  The Second Annual Festival of Short Film and Video, sponsored by the Harry M. Warner Film Institute at Slippery Rock University, will be held Thursday [April 20] on campus and Friday [April 21] at the Scottish Rite Cathedral in New Castle, offering 22 entries from across the globe.

» Social Work Open House Set at Regional Learning Alliance in Cranberry
 SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- An open house for those interested in a career in social work will be held at the Regional Learning Alliance at Cranberry Woods, from 7 to 8 p.m., April 27.

» Information Session on Schizophrenia, Documentary, Panel Discussion Set at SRU
     SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – A chance to get information on schizophrenia is being offered those at Slippery Rock University and in surrounding communities at a 7 p.m. April 25 event designed to raise awareness about the mental illness and including a documentary film and a follow-up panel discussion.

» Kit-flying, Organic Beer-making Workshop, Hybrid Cards Part of SRU Earth Day
     SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – A hybrid car demonstration, an organic beer-making workshop, kite-making and 10 other activities encompass the 16th annual Earth Festival at the Robert A. Macoskey Center for Sustainable Systems at Slippery Rock University.

» 'Sounds of Korea' to be Presented in Music, Dance at SRU
 SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Music and dance will be featured at Slippery Rock University when the “Sounds of Korea,” including three sets of drums recently donated to the university by its sister school Kangwon University in Kangwon, South Korea, will be presented by the Korean Traditional Performing Arts Association of New York when the group visits campus Saturday [April 22].

     SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. –  “Native American Celebration Day” will be marked at Slippery Rock University with a two-day celebration April 18-19, featuring the Council of Three Rivers American Indian Center and the premiere of the play “Higher Education” written by the university’s Dr. Frederick White, assistant professor of English.

» 'Millennial Generation' Focus of Lecture by Historian, Author William Strauss
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa –  “Millennials and the Pop Culture” is the title of an April 27 lecture at Slippery Rock University by William Strauss, author of 10 books and a leading authority on American generations. His appearance is part of Kaleidoscope, SRU’s April 19-30 arts festival.

» Kaleidoscope Event: Pittsburgh's George Romero to Visit SRU for Showing of his 'Creepshow'
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – George Romero, director of the black-and-white chiller “Night of the Living Dead” and a favorite among horror buffs, comes to Slippery Rock University on April 19 for a showing of his movie “Creepshow,” followed by a question and answer session. A tribute letter from “Creepshow” author Stephen King will be read as well.

» SRU Chamber Singers to Perform in Butler with Joe Negri of 'Mister Rogers' Fame
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University Chamber Singers and jazz guitarist Joe Negri, known to millions of children as Handyman Negri on PBS’s “Mister Rogers Neighborhood,” will collaborate for an April 22 concert of jazz standards at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Butler.

» 'Three M's' Concert at SRU to Raise Scholarship Funds
  SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. –  A “Three M’s” concert featuring Mozart, Martin and Mendelssohn will be presented by three Slippery Rock University music department faculty at 4 p.m. April 23 in Swope Recital Hall raising funds for the Dwight and Jeane Baker Memorial Fund Scholarship.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. –  The plight of German women married to Jewish men during the rule of the Third Reich will be explored when Slippery Rock University’s theater department presents “Rosenstrasse,” a Terry Lawrence play offer in five performances in Miller Auditorium.
