$410,995 Grant to Fund Pedestrian Walkways at SRU
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – In Slippery Rock University’s ongoing efforts to upgrade safety for students and visitors, the university has received a $610,995 federal grant to construct lighted pedestrian paths in the southeastern corner of campus and along Harmony Road.

Macoskey Center for Sustainable Systems Education and Research has received the “Conservation Award for Outstanding Organization” from the Bartramian Audubon Society, a non-profit organization promoting environmental education and conservation in western Pennsylvania.

SLIPPERY ROCK – The success of last summer’s Slippery Rock Farmer’s Market, organized by Slippery Rock University students, has prompted organizers to establish the market again beginning May 20. It will run every Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon, through Oct. 28.

Eight SRU Faculty Receive International Travel Grants to Futher Research
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Eight Slippery Rock University faculty have been awarded President’s International Professional Development Grants that will allow them to present papers and undertake research at academic conferences around the world as part of their academic work. The grants will also allow two music department faculty, joined by the SRU Jazz Ensemble, to perform at prestigious jazz festivals in Switzerland, France and Holland this summer.

Due to expected inclement weather for Saturday [May 13], Slippery Rock University will hold its spring commencement exercises indoors. The 11 a.m. Saturday ceremony will see more than 1,050 diplomas, including 42 doctor of physical therapy degrees, presented in Morrow Field House.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – In an effort to make his way to the international Opera Theatre and Music Festival in Lucca, Italy, this summer, award-winning Slippery Rock University vocal major Michael Desnoyers will sing classical and jazz selections when he offers a fund-raising recital at 3 p.m. May 20 at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Butler.

SRU to Confer 1,050 Degrees May 13; Mary Del Brady to be Commencement Speaker
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Mary Del Brady, a 1972 Slippery Rock University graduate and entrepreneur whose 30 years of professional experience include the founding and ownership of several companies in the services and biotechnology industries and recently honored by Pittsburgh’s technology community, will be the speaker when the university awards nearly 1,050 diplomas, including 42 doctor of physical therapy degrees and 110 masters degrees at commencement ceremonies set for May 13.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Piano duets students in Dr. Nanette Kaplan Solomon’s classes at Slippery Rock University will offer a “Piano Extravaganza” at 4 p.m. Sunday [May 7] in Swope Recital Hall, featuring works by a wide range of composers including Mozart, Brahmas, Dello Joio and Rachmaninoff.

Summer/Fall Registration Open for Community at SRU's Child Care Center
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University Student Government Association Preschool and Child Care Center is accepting summer and fall student registration for full- and part-time youngsters from across the community with special programs planned for those ages 3 to 5 and those ages 6 to 12, including such themes a computers, growing a garden and creepy, crawly bugs.

SRU Aquatics Professor One of Six in Nation Honored
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – For his contribution to aquatic safety on a national level, Slippery Rock University physical education faculty Robert Ogoreuc has received the 2006 National Honor Award from the Aquatic Council of the American Association for Physical Activity and Recreation. Five other people nationwide received the award.
