SRU’S ARMY ROTC PROGRAM
COMMISSIONS FIVE CADETS AS SECOND
LIEUTENANTS
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.
– Slippery Rock University’s award-winning Army ROTC
program has commissioned five cadets as second lieutenants at the
end of spring semester.
The five
are:
* David Lisovich of East Pittsburgh, now assigned
to the armor branch at Fort Hood, Texas;
* Lisa Hatfield, of Slippery Rock, now assigned
to the medical service corps, but given an education delay to allow
her to pursue her master’s degree at West Virginia
University;
* Brandon Libert of Olympia, Wash., now awaiting
assignment in the ordnance branch; and
* Daniel Maigret of Lockport, N.Y., now assigned
to field artillery training at Fort Stewart, Ga., and
* Christopher Richard, of Slippery Rock, now
assigned to the Pennsylvania National Guard Unit in New
Castle.
Earlier this
year, the program was awarded its third Cadet Command award in as
many years for meeting its commissioning mission for fiscal 2005.
The award is only given to ROTC program that meet or exceed the
Army’s goal off commissioning lieutenants into the army. The
SRU program enrolls some 100 cadets offering them leadership and
officer training.
The program
provides three- and four-year, as well as incentive, scholarship
opportunities. In addition to a number of Gen. Douglass MacArthur
Awards, proclaiming the unit as “Best Small School” in
the region in training Army officers, the SRU ROTC program offers a
leadership minor as a means of instilling multiple leadership
traits and abilities in cadets. Students make use of an on-campus
leadership laboratory to undertake responsibilities for planning
and completing missions. The campus program has consistently ranked
in the nation’s top 10 percent of all ROTC units.
