Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI or STD) Testing for Women
The Student Health Center provides free testing for sexually transmitted infections in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Tests include chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, and HIV testing. Tests are free and confidential.
You may call the Student Health Center (724-738-2052) for an appointment with a nurse practitioner who will perform the exam. Please plan on an appointment lasting 45 minutes-1 hour. During that time, the nurse practitioner can help you determine the specific tests you would like to have done.
Your options and what you need to know:
- Chlamydia/Gonorrhea - A vaginal exam is part of the test. Samples are taken from the cervix and sent to a lab. Results are available within a week. During your exam, the nurse practitioner will also check the skin for any signs of herpes or genital warts.
- Syphilis/HIV - A blood sample is taken at your appointment and sent to a lab. Results are available within a week.
- Pap Smear - This test is available but does entail a cost for laboratory processing. Insurance or Rock Dollars can be used. A vaginal exam is required. Do not have sex 24 hours before any STD/STI testing.
