SRU TO AGAIN HOST ‘UNITY
WEEK’ AS A WAY OF PROMOTING DIVERSITY/UNITY
SLIPPERY
ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University will mark Unity Week,
organized and sponsored by the SRU Student Union for Minority
Affairs, the week of Nov. 12-18 with a host of activities,
including a Gospel Fest, films and specialty foods, all designed to
promote campus diversity and unity among students, faculty, staff
and the community.
The week
opens Nov. 12 with a 6:30 p.m. Gospel Fest, sponsored by Chosen
Generation, in the University Union. The Nov. 13 events offers a
State of America panel discussion and the film “God and
Gays” at 7 p.m. in the Strain Behavioral Science Building
Auditorium. The event is sponsored by the Presidents Commission on
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Issues, the Office of
Intercultural Programs, the SRU Black Action Society and Sister to
Sister.
“Taste of the
World,” sponsored by AVI Food Systems, the campus contract
food vendor, will be offered from noon to 3 p.m. Nov. 14 in the
University Union Lobby. All proceeds will go toward adopting
families for Thanksgiving. Participants are asked to bring a
non-perishable food item related to Thanksgiving.
Nov. 15 will see a
5:30 p.m. Step Clinic and Mock Step Show in the union, and from
noon to 3 p.m. Nov. 16 “Novelty Events” will be offered
in the union.
A student vs.
faculty/staff basketball game and “Novelty Events,”
sponsored by the SRU Late Night Programming Committee, will be held
from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Nov. 17 in Morrow Field House, and on Nov 18,
the Mr. and Miss Unity Pageant will be held at 4 p.m. in the union.
A Stroll Competition and After Party sponsored by Alpha Zeta Alpha
chapter of Phi Beta Sigma fraternity will follow at 8 p.m. in the
union.
