» SRU's Old Stone House to Host Two Holiday Events
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The annual, three-day Candlelight Christmas Tour of the Old Stone House, Butler County’s most recognizable landmark, will be followed by the two-day “A Civil War Christmas,” showing what the holiday was like for thousands of soldiers and their families during the American Civil War.

» SRU Students Visit Historic Hurricane Site to Make Class Work Up Close and Personal
     SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Everyone agrees classroom learning is great, but hands on, on-site learning is even better, and at Slippery Rock University students in a variety of geography, geology and the environment courses often get such opportunities, including one recent trip for 30 students and 10 faculty to South County, R.I., to see up close and personal the damage and destruction wreaked by a hurricane 68 years ago.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. –For researching the effect of obesity on horses, Slippery Rock University biochemistry major Kimberly Negrin placed second nationally in the biological sciences category at the Ninth Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium in the Chemical and Biological Sciences, held at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- When Slippery Rock University’s Dr. Joseph Merhaut, assistant professor of special education, was contacted by the University of Pittsburgh to join its four-year project in Kosovo, he was intrigued, but had little idea of the massive destruction, disarray and sometimes unsafe conditions he would find in Kosovo’s school systems.

» SRU Art Professor Receives New Castle NAACP Award for Humanitarian Work
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – For local community service and teaching water purification to villagers in Sudan, Iraq and Honduras, Slippery Rock University art Professor Dick Wukich has received the President’s Award from the New Castle NAACP. It is the highest honor given annually by the New Castle branch.

 SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University modern languages and cultures department will hold its annual “Focus on French Week” beginning Tuesday [Nov. 14] with a campus visit by contemporary French guilder Joseph Kadri, a Compagnon doreur member of an elite group of artisans recognized for their skills throughout Europe.

» SRU Chamber Flute Choir Concert to Feature Renaissance to 2006 Selections
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University's Chamber Flute Choir, under the direction of Stacey Steele, assistant professor of music, will present its fall concert at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 15 in Swope Recital Hall, that includes music written during the Renaissance to that written earlier this year.

 SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – A special reception for SRU alumni will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 16 at the Hoyt Institute of Fine Art as a way of introducing the artistic talents of SRU students and those enrolled in SRU’s College of Fine and Performing Arts. The event is being sponsored by SRU’s Alumni Association.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – For her biochemical research, Slippery Rock University chemistry major Amanda Henry placed first in the biochemical science category at the Ninth Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium in the Chemical and Biological Sciences.

» SRU Piano Trio to be Featured at All Saint's Music Festival
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. –  Beethoven's Triple Concerto, featuring the Slippery Rock University Piano Trio  -- Dr. Nanette Kaplan Solomon, Paula Tuttle and Warren Davidson -- with the Pittsburgh Festival Orchestra conducted by Melissa McBride will be among the featured selections at Monday’s [Nov. 6] fourth annual All Saint’s Music Festival held at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Highland Park, Pittsburgh.

» SRU Theater Department to Present 'Speaking in Tongues'
 SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – “Speaking in Tongues,” a ___-act play by Andrew Bovell that explores betrayal, infidelity, fear and the universal yearning for love, will be the second production of the Slippery Rock University theater department’s season with opening curtain set for Nov. 14 as part of a seven-performance run.

» Gubernatorial Candidate Lynn Swann to Visit SRU Friday
Lynn Swann, the Republican candidate for governor, is scheduled to make a campaign stop at SRU at 2 p.m. Friday [Nov. 3] at the University Union, Room 206. The meet-and-greet is sponsored by the SRU College Republicans.
