SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University dance faculty and students will wrap up fall semester with a Dec. 2 concert featuring student choreography.

The concert will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. in Swope Recital Hall. Tickets are $2 and may be purchased from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 28 and Nov. 30 in the Morrow Field House Lobby.

The concert features works by dance faculty Jaya Mani, Tom Truss and SRU dance majors. Students from Mani’s world dance course will present three dance pieces in the Bharatanatyam tradition titled “Pushpanjali,” “Alarippu” and “Kolattam.”

Truss will present a work in progress titled “Carrying” that includes movement, text and original music composed by new dance faculty Andrew Hasenpflug. Twenty two dance students will perform Carrying. This piece will be presented in its finished form in the SRU winter concert next semester.

Student choreographers will present pieces based on a range of styles such as modern dance, tap and ballet. The student and choreographers have participated in a rigorous creative process during fall semester under the direction of SRU’s Ursula Payne, associate professor of dance.
