SRU’S OLD STONE HOUSE TO HOST TWO HOLIDAY EVENTS;

CANDLELIGHT CHRISTMAS TOUR, CIVIL WAR CHRISTMAS

    SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The annual, three-day Candlelight Christmas Tour of the Old Stone House, Butler County’s most recognizable landmark, will be followed by the two-day “A Civil War Christmas,” showing what the holiday was like for thousands of soldiers and their families during the American Civil War.

     The candlelight tour will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday [Dec. 1-2] and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at the facility located at the intersection of routes 8 and 173 and 528, 12 miles north of Butler. The Old Stone House is owned and managed by Slippery Rock University.

     The free tour will find every room decorated by a different area florist or craft dealer. All decorations will be offered for sale. Traditional holiday treats will also be offered.

     Soldiers, their wives and children will be on hand for the free 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 9-10 Civil War re-enactment event. Traditional music of the 19th century will be presented and visitors may chat with those who endured the holiday during the nation’s darkest days.

     The facility is curated by Dr. David Dixson, SRU professor of history.
