» Team Narrows Nickname Choice to Four Finalists
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Now taking the field, the Slippery Rock Boulders…or the Rockets…or the Sliders…or the Sluggers. You pick. Those are the four names that emerged as finalists in the name-the-team contest for the Slippery Rock Professional Baseball team. The team, the newest member of the Frontier League, will begin playing at Slippery Rock University’s Jack Critchfield Park this summer.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Mathematical Association of America (MAA), the largest mathematics association in the U.S., has selected Slippery Rock University’s award-winning math Professor Robert Vallin to become its first associate director for student activities.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – More Slippery Rock University students own a computer, cell phone and MP3 player or iPod this year compared to last according to an annual survey conducted by two SRU professors and a graduate student.

 SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. –  Members of Slippery Rock University's Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity recently staged a "PittsBurgh All-Stars Rap and Hip Hop Concert" to raise funds to support three-year-old Jordan Jack. Jordan suffers from Griscelli Syndrome, a life-threatening illness. The event raised $1,300. (photo available)

» Moving Concepts: Free movement education program offered to preschool-age children
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Children ages 3 through 5 throughout the region are being offered a free, on-campus movement activities program at Slippery Rock University titled “Moving Concepts” set for 10 to 10:45 a.m. Thursdays in the Morrow Field House beginning Feb. 1.

» SRU to save thousands with new PC monitor energy settings
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University expects to save more than $27,000 annually in electricity costs by activating sleep mode settings on 2,000 faculty and staff computer monitors. The work will be done before the beginning of spring semester. The University’s Energy Conservation Committee, formed by President Robert Smith, approved the plan as its first energy conservation measure.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Slippery Rock University’s counseling and development department was presented the “Outstanding Counselor Education Program” award from the Pennsylvania Counseling Association, an advocacy organization, at its 38th annual conference. The association picked one university for the top award from among 25 counselor educator programs in the state.

» SRU Graduate, Lead Copyright Attorney at Microsoft to Speak at Dec. 16 Commencement
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Elke Flores Suber, a 1993 Slippery Rock University graduate and lead copyright attorney for Microsoft’s Entertainment and Devices Division, and Microsoft Research, will be the speaker when the university confers more than 550 diplomas at its 1:30 p.m. Dec. 16 fall commencement ceremonies.
