SRU JAZZ ENSEMBLE I INVITED TO NOTRE DAME JAZZ FESTIVAL;

TO BE JOINED BY JAZZ ENSEMBLE II FOR CAMPUS CONCERT SUNDAY

     SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University Jazz Ensemble I, which was recently selected to perform at the prestigious 2007 University of Notre Dame Collegiate Jazz Festival, the oldest in the nation, will be joined by the Jazz Ensemble II for the final music department concert of the semester at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

     The ensembles are under the direction of Dr. Stephen Hawk, associ SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University Jazz Ensemble I, which was recently selected to perform at the prestigious 2007 University of Notre Dame Collegiate Jazz Festival, the oldest in the nation, will be joined by the Jazz Ensemble II for the final music department concert of the semester at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.te professor of music, and Dr. David Glover, assistant professor of music. The concert will be held in Miller Auditorium, featuring standards by jazz composer/performers, including Randy Brecker, Hoagy Carmichael, Thelonius Monk and Stanley Turrentine.

     The SRU Jazz Ensemble I’s recently released CD, "Crossing Borders," features selections from its summer European tour that included performances at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland and the North Sea Jazz Festival in the Netherlands. The group also performed in Paris and Germany as part of the tour. The CD is available at the SGA Bookstore.

     The group will play at the Notre Dame festival which will feature 10 college bands from across the U.S. performing before a distinguished panel of judges, including Jon Faddis, Carl Allen, James Carter and Rodney Whitaker. The 1999 ensemble, directed by Hawk, earned nine outstanding jazz solo awards at the festival.

      Admission to Sunday’s concert is $3 for the general public, SRU students free.
